‘The Magician’s Hat’ is written by Malcolm Mitchell, illustrated by Joanne Lew-Vriethoff and read by Alison Brie.
This is not your typical afternoon at the library. It’s Family Fun Day, and a magical man with a big hat has suddenly appeared. A crowd gathers to see what kinds of tricks this surprise visitor will perform. That’s when the Magician pulls off his favorite trick of all. He invites kids to reach into his hat to pull out whatever they find when they dig down deep. Soon – poof! – each child comes away with something better than they could’ve imagined: a book that helps them become whatever they want to be, and makes their dreams come true through pages and words, and the adventures that follow. But as each child is swept into reading’s powerful adventures, they can’t help but wonder, What’s really making the magic happen?
There’s an undeniable magnetism to actress and comedian Ayden Mayeri—whether she’s portraying an unhinged Pilates instructor or pasta-cult victim. Her most outrageous characters pulse with eccentric emotion, with performances across Veep, Spin Me Round, I Love That For You, Big Mouth, and, most recently, Mr. Throwback and Jackpot!
Mayeri met Spin Me Round lead and co-writer Alison Brie for the first time on Zoom. The night prior, a call to discuss a potential part in the film was arranged while Mayeri sat in a Scottsdale steakhouse across from her in-laws. She had yet to knock back a glass of wine, “but I was a little stoned,” she admits. An immediate drive home and frantic read-through of the script preceeded what ended up being a role-cinching call, eased in by a recommendation from Brie’s husband, Dave Franco.
Their work on the dark comedy, released in 2022, centered on the underbelly of an all-you-can-eat pasta chain. Following that, Brie had a strarring role in 2023’s rom-com Somebody I Used To Know, which was directed by Franco, and co-written by the pair. Mayeri and Brie are verging dangerously into “frequent collaborator” territory. As a busy year for each winds down, the two met for a candid conversation about breaking into the industry, Marvel stunt teams, the comedic brilliance of Molly Shannon, and where they might cross paths next.
Alison Brie was out celebrating the 2024 Emmy Awards by attending a couple of pre-Emmys parties. I have added 2 HQ images into our photo gallery!

Alison Brie has nabbed the key villain role of Evil-Lyn in Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Films’ live-action take on Masters of the Universe.
The actress, currently seen on Peacock’s thriller limited series Apples Never Fall, joins Nicholas Galitzine (The Idea of You) and Camila Mendes in the adaptation of the popular toy brand first introduced in the 1980s. Galitzine leads the series as He-Man, while Mendes is on the call sheet for the role of Teela, the captain of the royal guard and possible romantic interest.
In the director’s chair is the founder of stop-motion powerhouse Laika, Travis Knight, who helmed the company’s Kubo and the Two Strings. Masters of the Universe has been in development for around two decades, but now finally seems to be approaching a start of production.
Plot details are being kept in the box, but the concept centers on the character of Prince Adam of Eternia who, thanks to his Power Sword, turns into the muscular He-Man and is imbued with superhuman strength and abilities. With his assortment of allies, he defends the planet from the evil Skeletor and his armies.
Evil-Lyn is Skeletor’s second-in-command and uses a wand with a crystal orb to practice the dark arts. Meg Foster portrayed the character in the 1987 live-action movie.
The screenplay is by Chris Butler, following initial drafts written by David Callaham, and brothers Aaron and Adam Nee.
Escape Artists and Mattel Films are producing the feature that is to be released in theaters worldwide June 5, 2026.
The casting in a big-budget IP fantasy is a change of pace for Brie, who is known for her comedy and dramatic work in rom-coms and on television. She earned notice for her roles on Netflix series GLOW, cult comedy Community and AMC’s Mad Men. She recently starred in romancer Somebody That I Used to Know, which she co-wrote, and executive produced with husband Dave Franco, and appeared in the Oscar-winning drama Promising Young Woman.
Brie is repped by WME and Rise Management.
